Minister Arjuna Ranatunga stated that Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminal (CPSTL) has lost around 10 Million on the day of fuel price hiked. He further mentioned that they are taking severe actions against wrongdoers after the investigations and they are taking steps to claim the lost amount from them. He made this remarks during a programme held at Gampaha Divisional Secretariat office, today.  

Government decide to increase fuel on 10th May midnight which was declared in the morning of the same day. In such situation, same day orders are cancelling temporarily. However initial investigation has revealed that 52 fuel bowsers from Kolonnawa terminal and 22 fuel bowsers Muthurajawela terminal have released following the same day orders. By this smuggle, Kolonnawa terminal lost Rs.6,580,200 and Muthurajawela terminal lost Rs.2,468,400. Investigation disclosed that some regional fuel distribution centers also released stock of fuel following same day orders.

“This smuggle has done following the wrong procedure. Some filing stations received stock of fuel within the same day which was not received for weeks. There are customers who have paid for fuel the day before price hiked, but not received stocks and customers who are paid and received stocks within hours. We are processing investigation to identify the offenders. We will hand over the further investigations to FCID. This smuggle has been occurring for years. I will take severe actions to stop wrongdoings. Some ministers also trying to push us up when we are trying to catch thieves” Minister added further.
